Bearings and Bushings | The Powder Metal Process | Other Parts Created by Dymet Using Powder Metal | Dymet makes powder metal bushings and bearings out of a variety of materials, including bronze, diluted bronze and stainless steel. Precision tolerances (.0005") require a secondary sizing operation. Parts are re-struck in highly polished, dimensionally accurate tools. This process allows tighter tolerances than can be held with compaction and sintering alone. Impregnation is another secondary operation Dymet can perform. We can impregnate one of several materials into the naturally occurring porosity of powder metal bearings and bushings. Powder metal parts look solid but are 20-25% porous consisting of thousands of small interconnected capillaries. Oil, Teflon and our proprietary dry film lubricant (D16) are available for impregnation. D16 has been at work in the automotive industry for years. Door hinge bushings and the cold-headed hinge pin are coated with D16. D16 coating works best in a high load, low RPM situation as compared to oil impregnation which relies on the friction of high RPM to draw the oil out of reservoir. | The Powder Metal Process | Other Parts Created by Dymet Using Powder Metal |
